What documents do I need to enter Sweden?

Italy and Sweden are both members of the Schengen agreement. The citizens of its members and non-EU nationals staying legally within the Schengen Area can move freely within its borders.

The following documents are necessary:

Italian citizens:

  • Passport or national ID card (valid for travel outside Italy)
  • If the duration of your stay in Sweden will be more than 3 months you must be able to show you fulfil the requirements of right of residence

Non-EU/EEA citizens residing in Italy:

  • Passport
  • Residence permit in Italy. You need the residence permit card. You cannot travel with the receipt of ongoing renewal of that permit
  • Even if you do not need a visa, there are still some requirements that must be met. Check all the requirements here
  • You can visit Sweden for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-days period

Non-EU/EEA citizens who do not need a visa to travel to Sweden:

  • Check all the requirements on the Swedish Migration Agency’s website 
  • You can visit Sweden for a maximum of 90 days within a 180-days period.
