The quickest and easiest way is to apply for a visa is at the Swedish Visa Application Centre, which is run by VFS Global. You present your application in person to VFS Global and they can also provide you with information and other kinds of service. When the decision has come through, after about 14 days, you collect your passport at VFS Global.
VFS Global charge a fee of 452 EGP per application (over and above the visa fee) for their services. Check the VFS Global website for the application centre’s address and opening hours and for other practical information.
It is also possible to submit a visa application directly to the Embassy. If you wish to do so, you need to make an appointment. VFS Global will assist you, free of charge, to make an appointment on phone number +20 (0) 2 333 23 004. Appointments to apply direct at the Embassy has longer waiting time than submitting your application at VFS Global.
Diplomatic and Service passports
Holders of Diplomatic and Service passports may submit applications directly to the Embassy. You need an appointment with the Embassy to submit your application.
Holders of Special Passport should get appointment with VFS Global.
CAUTION: Avoid other people selling services
Please note that the Embassy only cooperates with VFS Global. The Embassy has nothing to do with sellers outside the premises of the Embassy or the VFS Global office who offer services for payment. No sellers can influence either the processing period or the decision.
The Swedish Embassy cannot act on individual cases, since this this is not within its competence under the Swedish law. The Swedish Migration Agency is the authority that processes the cases of residence permit.
The legislation on asylum is designed in the way that an applicant must be on Swedish territory for her or his application to be processed. Therefore this is not possible for foreign nationals to seek asylum through Swedish embassies or Diplomatic missions abroad.
Refugees and others in need of protection, who cannot be guaranteed permanent residence or security where they are, may become a part of the resettlement quotas several countries set to the United Nations Refugee Agency's (UNHCR) disposal annually to provide protection for those in need.
To be considered for UNHCR’s quota selection and offered resettlement to a third country, a person must be registered with the UNHCR. The individuals UNHCR considers in need of resettlement to a new homeland are presented to any of the approximately twenty-five countries in the world - of which Sweden is one - receiving quota refugees. Each country then makes an assessment of the person's refugee claims and makes decisions on residence permits.
The Embassy therefore recommends you to contact the UNHCR office in Cairo to describe your situation.
If you are not satisfied with the decision you have been given, you can appeal it. The appeal must be in writing, signed by you, and must be presented at or arrive at the embassy no later than three weeks after the date you received the decision.
The appeal must state:
If someone else signs the appeal on your behalf, that person must be authorised to represent you (power of attorney). The power of attorney document must be signed by you and submitted in the original together with your appeal.
It is the embassy that initially decides whether to review the decision. If it decides not to change its decision, the case is forwarded to the Migration Court in Sweden.
