Bring a pet to Sweden
Changed rules regarding travels with animals from Belarus
As of September 16, 2024, additional entry requirements apply for Sweden and the EU.
Important information for those who will travel with or import the following animals: dog, cat or ferret from or through Belarus (or Russia):
- An animal brought into the EU/ Sweden must have an approved number of antibodies against rabies. A blood sample must be taken no earlier than 30 days after the last rabies vaccination and analyzed by an EU‑approved laboratory.
- After the approved antibody result, the travelling animal must wait another 3 months, starting from the day of sampling, before it can travel.
- In order to meet the entry requirements, an animal needs to be at least 7 months old.
- Animals which do not meet the requirements for entry may be rejected at the border to Sweden or other EU countries and, in worst case scenarios, be subject to animal euthanasia.”
