Make an appointment:

  • Go to the online booking calendar. If there are no time slots available, be sure to check in regularly as booked slots may become available when cancelled. New times are published every first Wednesday of the month. You can not book a time slot via telephone nor email. There is no waiting list.
  • When you have reserved a time slot, you will receive a confirmation email. If you need to cancel your appointment, please do this as soon as possible. This will allow for others to book your time slot.

At the Embassy:

Make sure to bring the required documents, in original. All forms should be completely filled in and printed. You need to bring your current passport or national ID-card.

Required documents:

  1. The verification form "Information for Verification of your Swedish citizenship". The form must be printed, completely filled in and signed by the applicant.
  2. NB! If you are applying for a person under 18 years of age, you also need the Guardian Certificate consent form: "Consent to apply for a passport/national identity card (for a minor)". The form must be printed, completely filled in and signed by both guardians. Read more below about the application for minors.
  3. An international "Uittreksel BRP" (excerpt from the Personal Records Database), ordered from your municipality showing your Swedish nationality. Link to more information about the "BRP".
Link to the Government's information about the Personal Records Database.
  4. NB! If you live in Belgium, bring your residence permit card showing your Swedish nationality. If you live in Germany, bring your “Meldebescheinigung” showing your Swedish nationality.

  5. Do not forget to bring your old passport or national ID. If your current passport/ID has expired, you need to show another valid ID. Link to information about valid identification.  If you've lost your passport/ID, bring a police report and a valid ID. If you have no valid identification, another person needs to be present at the Embassy appointment and be able to present a valid ID.
  6. We will make a photo at the Embassy.

Pay the fee by card as you submit your application. Link to fees

You can choose to pick up your passport/ID-card at another Swedish embassy or consulate if you notify us when you are at the Embassy. For instance, it is possible to pick up at our consulate in Amsterdam or Groningen.

You can also apply for a passport in Sweden and have it sent to the Embassy in The Hague, or to the consulates in Amsterdam or Groningen. If you wish to do so, you will pay an extra fee, but it is still cheaper to apply in Sweden and have it sent here. Link to fees.

How and when to pick up your passport/ID:

After the application, it usually takes two to eight weeks before the passport or national ID card can be collected. The embassy has no possibility to speed up the processing time. You will receive an email when your passport/ID is ready. You can pick up the passport/ID during our opening hours. You don't need to book an appointment for delivery. NB! At the time of delivery, the old passport and/or ID card must be brought.

If you asked to get your passport/ID sent to the consulate in Amsterdam or Groningen, check their opening hours.

Applying for somebody under 18 years?

Good to know:

  • It is cheaper and often easier to apply for a passport when/if you visit Sweden. Check how to via link to Polisen (in Swedish).
  • If you apply for a passport/ID in Sweden, you can ask to have it sent to the Netherlands. You pay an extra fee, but that will still be cheaper than applying at the Embassy. Link to fees.
  • If you do not bring all the required documents, we can not proceed with your application. The same documentation is required regardless of whether you have had a Swedish passport previously or not.
